Made In The USA

By Ricochet Gear April 07, 2020

Ricochet Manufacturing is proud to have over 25 years of experience producing the highest quality custom firefighting turnout and emergency protective gear, and all of it is MADE IN THE U.S.A.

Made in the U.S.A.? Like…Bruce Springsteen?

No, that's "BORN in the U.S.A." and is about the Vietnam War. We understand how you might have been confused, though.

It's not often these days that you see products NOT being shipped overseas for production by some companies we won't waste time namedropping here.

"Made in Taiwan," "Made in China," and "Made in Vietnam" can be plastered inside or across the back of your favorite garments, even if their parent companies were born in the great United States of America. It's no secret that manufacturing in our country has been on the decline since the late 1990s. Still, since 2010, over 300 companies have moved jobs BACK to the U.S. – meaning that real American production could be getting its legs again!

At Ricochet, we CHOOSE to produce exceptional products such as our firefighter PPE and emergency responder gear in the U.S.A. because we have a core set of beliefs that we have followed since DAY ONE. Sure, it hasn't always been easy, but having integrity and doing what is right rarely is.

What belongs to this "credo" Ricochet has dedicated itself to by keeping all of our products MADE IN THE U.S.A.

People buy American to help create or sustain the jobs of their family, friends, and neighbors. According to a study from the Economic Policy Institute, the U.S.A. lost over 5.7 million manufacturing jobs between 1998 and 2013, partially because of the Recession, but also because of trade imbalances and positions being sent overseas or replaced by, yeah, robots.

At Ricochet, we employ real flesh and blood Americans, mostly right from inside of our home of Philadelphia. These placements help the people of the city of Brother Love to get a job that they can feel good about, is fair and safe, and that we WON'T be shipping overseas or replacing with a droid, anytime soon. Crafting custom-cut firefighting and emergency response gear requires real humans to create, treat, and test it by hand – not it being pumped out by some machine.

Speaking of fair and safe conditions for our workers, that's another reason that Ricochet is so proud to be MADE IN THE U.S.A! We don't need to tell you in overwhelming detail how rough the conditions of factories in other countries can be. There's been plenty of exposés and coverage on some of the tragic exploitations that exist.

It's not uncommon for these overseas factories to have 12-13-hour workdays, child laborers, extreme temperatures, and dangerous chemicals polluting the air without proper venting available—all of this amongst various other hardships and potential perils to be faced.

More often than not, the reasoning for those conditions is linked to cost, so that consumers can save a few bucks on their new sweatpants, or phone, or whatever product they need so badly.

We pride ourselves on maintaining a safe and supportive environment for our workforce and offer them a fair wage, which again, you might not see in all countries making less-superior, but sure, cheaper, turnout, or emergency gear.

We understand that, sure, it may be impossible for just one single manufacturer to save the world, but we're going to do our darndest to make sure we take every step that we can to help out!

By making our products in the United States, we are using less fossil-fuel-burning transportation from point a to b, and thus we are reducing our overall carbon footprint. To do our part, we tailor your turnout or rescue gear in our Philadelphia based warehouse, and then utilize UPS, who are also very greenhouse gas conscious, to ship to you!

As we mentioned above, foreign factories, even ones owned by some of the biggest corporations in the game, can be utilizing dangerous, unregulated chemicals in their plants to help cut production costs. These countries are also going to have less oversight on emissions such as nitrogen oxide and carbon monoxide, which contribute to environmental issues worldwide. At Ricochet, we follow all regulations imposed by Government agencies to minimize any pollution from infiltrating the air, water, or soil of Pennsylvania and the surrounding areas.

80% of shoppers prefer to buy goods made in the United States, and 2/3rds of that audience would be willing to pay up to 10% more for an American-made product, according to a 2015 study by Consumer Reports.

Figures like that aside, keeping Ricochet American-Made not only helps the workers and owners with a paycheck, which they can buy more American-made-goods with, but it also has an economic ripple effect across other industries. Studies estimate that every manufacturing-related job in the United States supports another 1.4 jobs in other sectors. That means that when we do well, we hire American accountants to do our taxes, order staff luncheons from American restaurants, and hire American design agencies to make the fancy new website you're reading this American-written blog on ;)

At Ricochet Manufacturing, we're proud to be a part of the rebirth of great companies that are MADE IN THE U.S.A. Quality, custom-made firefighting turnout gear, and emergency response protective equipment don't always come cheaply. Still, in working with us, you too can feel good that you are doing your part in protecting the environment, boosting the economy, and are supporting the health and wealth of your fellow Americans.

Heck, if we're tough enough for American staples like the FDNY and United States Air Force, we should be enough for you too!
